Shuji Wako - Japanese Printmaker

Shuji WAKO was born in Sendai in 1953. After he graduated from from Zokei University, Tokyo, in 1977, his photo-realistic works of Japanese traditional motifs on velvet black background have been exhibited all over in Japan and abroad. His works are i the collections of the British Museum, Rockefeller Foundation and others. 

Japanese traditional paper crafts such as cranes and balloons, ribbons are depicted meticulously in rich colors. They often exhibit optical illusions and dreamy characters floating in the velvet black space.
